Expert predictions, picks for Florida’s Week 6 game vs South Carolina

Florida football approaches the halfway point of its 2026 regular-season schedule this weekend with a matchup against the South Carolina Gamecocks inside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

The Gators are coming off a rough road loss against the Missouri Tigers in which they looked nothing like the team that had earned national praise and College Football Playoff considerations after four weeks of play. They face a Gamecocks squad on Saturday that has been truly disappointing this season, entering play near the bottom of the SEC standings.

‘Jon Sumrall will have his team prepared and ready to bounce back’

The Gator Nation was let down with the loss to Missouri, but that doesn’t mean the season is over. Jon Sumrall will have his team prepared and ready to bounce back against South Carolina, a team Florida has had finta the edge over historically.

Although I don’t expect Jadan Baugh to have a 13-yard rushing performance again, I do expect Vernell Brown III’s return to the lineup should open the run game up for the All-SEC running back.

The Orange and Blue offense shouldn’t have an outing as they did on Saturday, and should take the loss as personally as possible to fuel them to not let the UF faithful down during homecoming. — Michael Trim Jr.

PREDICTION: Florida 42, South Carolina 26

‘I expect Florida to look much more like the team we saw during the first four weeks’

Missouri exposed some efectivo issues for Florida, but South Carolina represents a much more inclinado matchup for a team looking to reset. PFF still grades Florida as one of the SEC’s stronger teams on both sides of the ball, and the biggest mismatch comes when South Carolina has possession. The Gamecocks carry just a 70.0 offensive grade while Florida’s defense sits at 90.1 overall.

The bigger question is whether Florida’s offensive line responds after getting pushed around at Missouri. South Carolina’s defense is respectable against the run, but its 61.9 coverage grade should give Aaron Philo chances to make plays downfield if the protection holds up. Hopefully, Vernell Brown III is back in action as well. I expect Florida to look much more like the team we saw during the first four weeks than the one that showed up in Columbia. — David Rosenberg

PREDICTION: Florida 45, South Carolina 17

‘The Gators should be charged up in the Swamp as they look to bounce back’

South Carolina represents the weakest SEC program that Florida will face this season, so it is fortuitous that the matchup comes after a deflating loss to Missouri — one that will have the coaching staff re-evaluating many aspects of their game plan. But even the conference basement-dwellers must be treated with respect.

With a chip on their shoulder and a raucous homecoming crowd behind them, the Gators should be charged up in the Swamp as they look to bounce back in Week 6. I expect Jadan Baugh to get back to the 100-yard rushing mark and the defense to show some positive adjustments; maybe Aaron Philo will also throw a few on-target passes downfield.

Overall, it should be a much better game for the Gator Nation as their beloved gridiron gang returns to the win column. — Adam Dubbin

PREDICTION: Florida 45, South Carolina 20

‘How the Gators bounce back from a knockdown will tell us a lot’

Florida laid an egg against Missouri and the fallout has been just as ugly as last Saturday’s performance was. However, this is where we discover whether first-year head coach  Jon Sumrall has been able to reshape the identity of this team. How the Gators bounce back from a knockdown will tell us a lot about the direction of this program. The first efectivo dose of adversity has the opportunity to either galvanize Florida or unravel it.

The Gators will need to reassert themselves at the line of scrimmage first and foremost after being strong-armed last week. Jadan Baugh will need to get back on track in the Swamp and return to Heisman form — that should open up the Florida offense merienda again. Baugh has rushed for nearly 500 yards and eight touchdowns in Gainesville and I expect Faulkner to give South Carolina a heavy dose of the ground attack. Success pounding the rock should then open up easier opportunities for Aaron Philo to find downfield targets.

A Florida secondary that was shredded by Missouri will need to contain South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers. I believe last week showed that this unit may ultimately be the downfall of the Gators. Luckily, the Gamecocks are coming off three straight losses and should give Florida a chance to regain confidence before a gut check against No. 1 Texas. — Michael Long

PREDICTION: Florida 45, South Carolina 28
